In 1998, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners changed appraisals to determine property taxes every four years instead of every eight years.

Pittsboro is the county seat of Chatham County, NC, and Fearrington, Goldston, Pittsboro and Siler City are the only incorporated communities in Chatham. Major industries in Chatham County, NC include manufacturing and agriculture. With more than 1,000 farms, Chatham County ranks 1st in North Carolina for beef cattle production, according to the U.S. Census for Agriculture. Chatham County’s manufacturing industries include wood products, chemicals, machinery and NC’s famed furniture. The Chatham County government and the Chatham County Economic Development Corporation work jointly to attract new business to Chatham County’s western region; innovations include offering tax breaks concurrent with the number of jobs created. The county is also developing a 480-acre parcel of land into an industrial park.

The manufacturing industry prospers because of Chatham County’s access to major highways, railway services and international airports. Interstates 40, 85 and 95 are within an hour of the county. The Raleigh-Durham International Airport in Raleigh, Piedmont Triad International in Greensboro, and the Siler City Municipal Airport provide air travel services.

The Chatham County Public Schools provide excellent public education; Central Carolina Community College serves Chatham, Harnett County and Lee County residents seeking continuing education.
